Stair Installation
about stair installs

Deck stairs take more wear than almost any other part of a build. They’re exposed to foot traffic, weather, and movement, so material choice and construction matter.
I build stairs using pressure-treated framing designed for exterior use, with proper rise, run, and spacing to keep everything solid and safe over time. For stair treads, I can match the decking material so the stairs feel like a natural extension of the deck, not an afterthought.
Pressure-treated wood treads are a practical option and perform well when maintained, though they will show wear sooner than other materials. Composite stair treads resist moisture and splintering, making them a good low-maintenance choice for high-traffic stairs. When I build with Ipe, the stair treads benefit from the same durability and longevity as the deck itself, often lasting decades with minimal structural wear.
No matter the material, I reinforce stair framing to limit flex and movement. The goal is stairs that feel secure underfoot, age well, and hold up to daily use.

Every deck I build is custom, which means there’s a short window between approving the project and starting construction.
Once the design is finalized and materials are selected, most projects are scheduled several weeks out. Lead times depend on material availability, permitting requirements, and how busy the build season is at the time. Specialty materials like composite or Ipe can take longer if they need to be ordered in advance.
I don’t overbook or rush jobs. When your project is on my schedule, it stays there. That allows me to give each deck the attention it deserves and deliver work I’m confident putting my name on.
If timing is important, I’ll talk through it with you early and give you a realistic start window upfront.

Every stair system is designed based on how it needs to function with your deck, yard, and home.
That includes tread depth, rise height, landing placement, railing style, and how the stairs meet the ground. Getting these details right affects both comfort and long-term durability.
