Premium Deck Builder in Louisville, KY
My name is Josh Waldner, and I’m the founder of Decked Out Craftsmen, a Louisville-based deck building company specializing in premium, long-lasting custom decks for homeowners.
Growing up on a Hutterite colony in Northern Montana, I learned to work with my hands from an early age. Repairing farm equipment, building houses, and making the most of my childhood, I became quite proficient in work that took place outdoors.
When I moved to Louisville to pursue a business degree, I started taking on contractor work to pay for classes. One job turned into another, and before long I was working full-time as a handyman. Over time, I noticed something interesting: the most consistent compliments I received were for the decks I built. So instead of doing a little of everything, I focused on doing one thing exceptionally well.
In 2025, I formed Decked Out Craftsmen to serve Louisville homeowners looking for high-quality deck construction without the big-company runaround. The business remains small, and that’s how I like it. Just a few of us on the job, but you can count on us to get you exactly what you want.

FAQ’S
-
I build both ground-level and elevated decks for residential homes. Projects range from simple, functional decks to more detailed builds with stairs, railings, and integrated features.
-
Yes. Each deck is designed around the home, the yard, and how you plan to use the space. I don’t push one-size-fits-all layouts.
-
I work with pressure-treated wood, composite decking, and Ipe hardwood. I’ll walk you through the pros and cons of each so you can choose what fits your budget and maintenance expectations.
-
Most projects are scheduled several weeks out after design and material selection. Lead times depend on season, material availability, and permitting. I’ll give you a realistic timeline upfront.
-
Yes. I regularly build with composite decking, especially for clients who want lower maintenance and longer material life.
-
I handle repairs when the structure is sound. That includes railing repairs, stair fixes, and replacing worn decking. If a deck isn’t safe to simply repair, I’ll tell you honestly.
-
In many cases, yes. I can add or modify stairs, railings, or other features as long as the existing deck can support the changes.
Quality Work Since Forever
I started building decks when I was 22, but I’ve been working outside my whole life. Growing up in a Hutterite colony in Northern Montana, working with your hands was just a part of normal life. So, it surprises no one that I still work with my hands, even after moving down to Louisville back in 2022.
